Jason is a sneaker...

Saturday was a pretty uneventful day. Cara, Lindsey and I met at Mom's to do Valentines in the mid-afternoon. We didn't go to Chuck E Cheese afterwards cuz all the losers in our family cancelled. Jason still met up with Lindsey and I at BW3 though for dinner and a couple beers. (Lindsey had sprite. What a good doobie.) After dinner, Lindsey went on her merry way, I went back to Mom's to pick up my laundry and Jason went home to shower and grab a movie for us to watch. When Jason knocked on my door later he handed me a rose. Awwww. But wait! It's not a white rose, as usual. I tell him, "Thanks, honey." Slight pause. "This is red!" He's never gotten me a red rose before. He says it's cuz he couldn't find any white ones and it wasn't really on purpose. I put it in a vase anway. It looks pretty. :)

He brought over Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the new one - for us to watch. So I went to put it in the DVD player. Inside the DVD case there was an envelope. I opened it to find:

What a sweetie. I went over to the couch where he was sitting and said, yes I promise to always make you smile too. Then he handed me this:

This is the only ring that he has ever owned. His dad gave it to him. He gave it to me as a promise ring. It's 10k white gold with a black onyx stone. There's a Aztec warrior guy carved into the stone.

So other than promising to make me smile, he's promised to marry me too. :)

The red rose was on purpose. He knew he had never given me a red rose before. What a sneaker.

The ring fits loosely on my left hand pointer finger, so that's where I wear it. Or on a necklace. It's shiny and it makes me smile. :)

Funny Stuff

I have a whole bunch of books up for sale on half.com. Today, I sold one to a girl in California. Her name was:

Cara Burpee

I laughed really hard and though of Cara... aka Princess Burpee. Who would have thought there was a real person named Cara Burpee?!

Funny stuff. :)

T.G.I.F.

I've spent three boring days subbing at three different schools in Lowell. It's been ridiculously uneventful.

But today, I did get a subbing paycheck in the mail.

AND I got a call from the restaurant of the guy who chased me down. I have an interview on Wednesday. (Monday didn't work for me, so I asked for a different day.) They said it might be a couple weeks before training can start, but that's okay with me. It's nice to think that in a couple of weeks I might not be so broke! :)

Chasing down a job...

So I decided that this is the week that I will get a second part-time job. My first options, of course, are restaurants since that's what my most recent experience has been in. So I dropped off applications at Blue Water Grill and Mangiamo - both of which are part of the Gillmore Collection of restaurants. Then today I went to Breton Village Mall to apply for a position at a "new restaurant" opening there. The company that is opening The Omelette Shoppe in Breton Village is also affiliated with two other area restaurants. Well, turns out that the Omlette Shoppe will only be open from 6am to 3pm. My availability states I am available from 4pm to 10pm. Not the job for me. So I thank the man for his time and walk away. I make it a little way down the mall when I hear my name being called. So I turn. It's the man from the application area. He's chased me down the mall! He says he is management at Sundance Grill and is leaving that location to open the new restaurant. He says he still has quite a bit of pull at Sundance and will be at the restaurant tomorrow. He will personally take my application to the restaurant and give it to the right people. He thinks they may have a place for me. Woo Hoo! He must have actually looked at my experience after I walked away and was impressed by the last couple of restaurants that I worked at. Not that I want to jinx it, but this seems like a good lead to me. The man actually came after me at the mall! Again, I am crossing my fingers... Maybe it will work this time...

Yawn...

Substitute teaching can either be exciting or boring as all hell. This week has been boring as hell. I've subbed in three different school districts this week and the most exciting thing about each day is the drive to the school. Two new districts this week meant finding two new schools. Other than that I've played Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 for six hours for the past three days. It's not very exciting. I think I'm getting dumber the more I play that game. Maybe I should grab one of my old textbooks and do some reading next time...

Yawn. My life is boring.

Except for the broken down car thing. That's not boring. A pain in the ass. But not boring...

Oh, you know...

So my weekend went okay. Not good. Not horrible. But okay.

Friday after subbing and after Jason got out of work he picked me up to go to Vitale's for beer and pizza. Which sounds really fun, but we were meeting his parents there. It's just wierd to have dinner with a boyfriend's parents. Even after 2 years. His dad did buy the meal, so that was nice of him. Afterwards we came back to my house and took showers so we didn't stink like a smokey bar anymore. Since I quit smoking 2 years and 4 months ago, I really can't stand the smell of smoke on my clothes and in my hair. We watched a movie and just hung out together. That was nice.

Saturday I had plans to drive out to Hastings to Anna's house for dinner with the girls. I was bringing Nana's Apple Cake for the dessert. Anna was making chicken and Dena was bringing cheesy potatahs and Sarah didn't specify what she was bringing. So after having coffee with Jason in the morning and spending some time preparing some things for an upcoming ebay auction, I headed out to Anna's house. Just a little freezing drizzle to drive 40 miles through. No big deal. It wasn't bad. I made it just past Caledonia when my car just decided it was going to stop working. I lost all acceleration power and then it started to stall when I put it into a gear. DAMMIT! I called Jason, who didn't have his phone on him at the time, and left him a message. Which I think he got the gist of it - I only had one bar of service on my phone and that would come and go. In the middle of no where and all... So after sitting for a little while, wondering if somehow I could manage to drive home I remembered... A lightbulb went off over my head... I have roadside assistance on my vehicle! Sweet! I called the number and they sent over a tow truck to tow my truck all the way back to Grand Rapids. I have up to $100.00 towing coverage on the car. I was hoping it would cover the cost of the tow. The tow truck driver said it might be like $20 more than that. I said no problem - lets go! He was chatty on the way back. He's got 3 kids, an ex-wife and a current wife that he's been married to for 18 years, had a house for 15 years, but just bought a house 3 years ago that they remolded, his daughter had her purse stolen at Meijer that day and needed money for the weekend until she could get her money back, his wife runs a cleaning company, and his oldest daughter was raped when she was 16 and had a baby that he took care of while she finished getting her associates degree... etc. etc. Very chatty, but at least it made the time go by fast. Jason met me at my house and we hung out instead of me seeing the girls. It was a bummer, but at least we had chinese take out for dinner and watched a movie together.

Sunday was bowling. My average at the start was a solid 100. Woo Hoo! I bowled a 134, 107, and 109 I think. I think that means my average may go up a point or two. Goody. My highest game ever was 154. I don't think that's going to happen again for a while. Afterwards, Jason took me to Mom's house to pick up her car, which I will be borrowing for the next week. We came back to my apartment and ate leftover chinese and watched Wedding Crashers - funny movie! We took showers, watched tv, and I went to family chat. Family Guy was new again - hooray!

Today the plan is to putt my car up to the garage that's less than a half mile away and have them give me a diagnosis and written estimate. Then I will pick it back up and have Jason try to do the work that needs to be done. He volunteered to do it. Maybe it was my crying that had him volunteering. Now he can be my hero. What a good guy. I have three sub jobs set up for this week. I was going to sub this morning but my back is killing me today. Ouch. I think it's from the bowling. I have a heating pad on it right now. Ahhhhhh.

Motivation

So last night I was having trouble getting to sleep for no good reason. At midnight, I was flipping channels, willing myself to go to sleep. Then, on TLC, I found the best show for motivating me to exercise this morning. It was about the 750 lb man. He was bedridden and ended up in a nursing home place where he died a couple days later. Kind've depressing, but highly motivating. Of course, it made me feel super skinny, so that was kinda nice too. ;)

This morning when I got up, I spent 30 minutes on my step machine. Woo Hoo. My legs hurt...

HAPPY 2006!!!!

Jason asked me long ago what I wanted to do for New Years Eve. I said I didn't want to be at a bar or a restaurant, since for the past 5 years or so, I've had to work at a restaurant on New Years. I said that what I really wanted was to be home at midnight - in my bed, drinking champagne, and wearing a tiara. So we got a bottle of champagne. We bought real glass champagne glasses to drink out of. Jason went to four different stores on New Years Eve to get me a tiara to wear (he didn't know what color I would like so he brought home red, blue, green, purple, and gold). We cooked some dinner, watched a few movies, and played monopoly until it was time to watch the ball drop. Then we got in my bed, popped the cork on the champagne, I put on the tiara and we kissed at midnight. It was exactly what I wanted. It was perfect. What a great way to start a new year!

So this year I'm going to:

Eat healthier
Exercise more
Get a real job (still crossing my fingers...)
Do something new
Donate to charitable causes
and the long shot - Convince my boyfriend to buy me a diamond ring before I turn 29 again... (crossing my fingers on this one too)
