Busy little bee

I've started working at the new restaurant. It is soooo different from the fine dining restaurants I've worked in for the last 6 years. But it's kind've a fun change of pace. The people I work with are really nice. The customers are very nice. The average guest check, though hovers around the $10 per person mark. Which means that my sales on a weeknight are around $120.00. Which means that if I get 20% tips from every single table, I can make $24.00 a night. Compare that with the$50-100 I used to make at Firehouse, and it's a little bit of a pay cut. But, that's why I am substitute teaching at least three times a week also. It's nice to be in the restaurant business again, I suppose. I get to be very social with coworkers and guests. I get to walk out the door with cash every time I work (even if it's not much). I get to schmooze people. When I sub I sit at a desk and don't really talk to anyone for the 7 hours I am at the school other than taking attendance and saying yes, you can use the restroom, and here is your assignment for today. It's kind've a lonely job. So the restuarant balances that out for me.

Jason and I have started house hunting. We contacted a real estate agent that I knew from Firehouse and she has started sending us email of new houses almost daily. Now we need to go get pre-approved for a mortgage and decide what we really want in a house and where we want to live for the next few years. We're looking for a starter house, maybe a fixer-upper, that we can live in for a few years and then move on to bigger and better things. It's very exciting and fun to be house hunting online. We haven't gone to any open houses or anything yet, but we have lots of time. We're aiming for buying this summer - maybe June or July - ish. Lots of time.

I dont know if they showed you this site but if you go to grar.com it has the MLS listings, which all of the area realtors use for their online searches. You can do a search right from http://public.grar.com/public/pubsrch.mac/start or if you want to look at a specific property you already know of, you can type in the MLS number or street on the main page. For example, you can find the ugly house down the road from me (which is listed for more than my house went for, and pales in comparison to mine -- no pool, smaller area, etc) by typing in my street name.

That's the website that Michelle has been sending us houses from. I hadn't thought to do my own search from it. Thanks!
