Mmmmm. Cake.

Today Jason and I are going to meet with our Cake Lady. I'm really hoping that she has some for us to sample. :)

She's one of Jason's mom's friends, so I am also hoping that she makes good cakes. I guess we're supposed to look at pictures today of cakes she's done. Pictures schmitures. I want to eat some.

And to think that the cake was originally one of the first things that we had lined up. Until Dave fell off the face of the earth and died, that is. Well, at least he's dead to me anyway...

Jason and I got one of those pools like we had growing up - the plastic kind that unrolls and has the blue plastic bottom and patterned sides. It's a huge 8' pool that we can actually sit it. So the other day we sat in it and had margaritas. Ahhhh. Refreshing. :)

I'm excited to see what Cara and Anna have come up with for my bridal shower on Saturday. It'll be great I'm sure. But the best part about it for me - I didn't have to plan it. Woo hoo!

That's about it for now. I have to drive out to Grandville to look at cakes now.

P.S.

P.S. Dan updated his blog.

And now I know that Cara isn't the only one who reads my blog.

She's just the only one who responds.

Wierd days

So you know how sometimes you just feel like everything has got to be happening for a reason?

Yesterday was one of those days.

About a month ago I was told by some lady at the jewelry store in Grandville that it would take 10 days to refurbish my ring so it's all spiffied up for the wedding. So, I planned on taking my ring to the jewelers 10 days before my first bridal shower so that I could have it back in time for the party. So I took the ring in yesterday to the jewelry store in Kentwood. The guy at the jewelry store said it'll be done on the 21st. Only takes 3 days, he says. Stupid lady at the jewelry store last time. But whatever.

So I decided while I was out there I should probably go shopping. I went to Vickys for their semi-annual sale and spent too much money. Then I went to the mall across the street and hit Nordstrom Rack for some great discounts on clothes and spent too much money. And then I went to Old Navy and found some items on sale/clearance and again spent too much money.

Point being, I was in the Grand Rapids area when I got the Mom Emergency phone call. Instead of taking 45 minutes to get to her apartment it only took about 20.

So I had the day off of work and I was fairly close when I was needed. Makes me think that it's just connected somehow. Wierd how that happens sometimes.

Isn't that fate? Or karma? Or something?

Wedding Stress... Again.

So, I've spent the past few weeks stressing out a little bit...

My old friend Dave originally was set to be our cake baker. Then when we found out that Sierra Room was closing, and we were losing our caterer, Dave became our caterer also. Then Dave stopped returning my phone calls. For about a month and a half. Our date kept coming closer and still no phone calls. So finally last week Wednesday, I left Dave a message saying that if I didn't hear from him by Friday then we would assume that he can't do our catering or our cake and that we would look into other vendors.

Friday came and went with no word from Dave.

So Saturday we were officially without a caterer or cake baker. We collected names and numbers from everyone we could.

Then Monday I called Karie and Chris who were going to do the catering originally from the Sierra Room. They would be happy to do it... BUT.... Gosh Chrys, you really need to think about your budget for the food because think about what you spend to eat dinner when you go out and you really can't feed people for that little amount and have you thought about servers and how many you need and were you going to provide the plates and silverware and linen and what kinds of napkins were you thinking of and will you have enough ice to keep the beer and wine cold and are we providing the bartender or are you and you need to have at least three tents to cover the buffet table if it rains and what are we going to do if it does rain and how are you going to make sure there's enough food for everyone and how many kids are going to be there and what kind of steak or chicken are you thinking of and did you want us to make the appetizer platters or are you not going to have them and who is going to clean up the mess afterwards and how much are you going to pay our servers if we have them and do they get a gratuity if the we provide them verses a flat rate if we just hire them out and do we have enough space for the DJ and where is the head table going to go and how many people are sitting at it... and on and on and on.. for over an hour. My head was spinning and I felt very unsure of
everything all at once.

So Monday at work I hired one of my co-workers to bar tend - for a flat rate for the day.

Bartender - check.

Jason's mom contacted a lady she knows that is a baker. She can do our cake.

Cake - check.

Chris and Karie will do the catering and we will hash out the details later.

Food - check.

We had to special order the stamps for the invitations since the postal rate changed and they don't have the pretty wedding stamps released yet and they wont until June 24th. Unless I wanted to put a liberty bell or flag stamp on the envelope along with a 17 cent stamp with a picture of a big horned sheep on it. (Click the link to see just how inappropriate these are for a wedding invitation.) Needless to say, these were not exactly what I was envisioning on my wedding invitations... So I special ordered the old wedding stamps and we finally got those in the mail yesterday. I spent all day today putting stamps on envelopes and stuffing envelopes and making sure they were all addressed correctly. Now I just have to drop them off at the post office. Whew.

Invitations - check.

Seriously, why can't anything ever just be easy and simple?
